8 Sure Ways to be Unfit

People are becoming increasingly conscious and concerned about their health.  However, they tend to neglect simple things that should be remembered in their quest for fitness. Are you guilty of these eight health taboos?

1. Not drinking enough water.

More than anything, eight glasses of water is a requirement that you should never skip.  Water hydrates your body, giving you healthy skin and hair as well as refreshing you during a strenuous workout and after.  It also helps in your weight loss by helping your kidneys and liver metabolize fat.

2. Not knowing what fitness level is appropriate for you.

A lot of men want Arnold Schwarzenegger physique, or Britney Spears' svelte or curvaceous figure.  The truth of the matter is that, most have limitations on their body that deter them from having their ideal figures.  Get to know your body and the limits you have as far as fitness is concerned.

Fitness, by its very definition, should help you feel good and look good, while also giving you the energy to do what you need to do every single day.  This means that you are able to carry out your work, some chores and some leisure activities on the side.

If you aim for a fitness goal that is outside your body's limits, chances are you would end up frustrated at the lack of progress you would experience, or become an exercise addict.

It is important to know what your ideal fitness level is depending on such factors as your age, genetics, personal habits, patterns for eating and exercise, gender and current fitness level.

3. Starting an exercise regimen without consulting your doctor or fitness professional.

A lot of people hit the gym when they decide to, often forgoing a visit to their doctor or consulting with a fitness professional.  Doing so poses a serious threat to your health, especially if you have medical problems like heart disease, arthritis, muscle pains, high blood pressure and other conditions.

4. Not eating right.

Your diet is a vital part of your fitness.  Like water, food sustains your body.  Your body needs to have all the nutrients it needs, so improper dieting could become a problem because as your body misses on some nutrients, you are bound to feel it physically.  Avoid fats, sweets and comfort food.  Furthermore, avoid overeating thinking that you could always burn it off at the gym.

5. Not having a workout schedule

Arbitrary trip to the gym is a sure way to fail any fitness initiative.  When you work out only when you feel like it, chances are, you would soon find yourself too lazy to do anything.  Having a workout schedule and religiously sticking to it allows you to develop discipline, while also appraising you of how healthy your fitness regimen really is.

Your workout schedule should consider your fitness goals, current fitness level, as well as other factors to ensure that your exercise does not adversely affect your health.  More than this, your fitness schedule should allow enough time for you to do warm up and cool down exercises on top of the main exercises you need to do.

6.  Not having a variety of activities for your fitness goals.

People are creatures of habit, so they stick to one particular activity for their fitness goals.  They might go to the gym, or go out to run at the park.  Sometimes, it is better to have different activities to help you achieve your fitness goals.  You can hit the gym every other day, play basketball on Sundays, run on Saturdays, and insert a game of racquetball during the week.

7. Not wearing comfortable clothing.

Oftentimes, people do not give what they wear when they exercise too much thought.  This is one sure way to be uncomfortable or to get injured while exercising.  Wear comfortable exercise clothes and shoes that help you do your exercise properly.  Clothes that let your sweat evaporate freely and footwear that cushions your feet from too much strain should be part of your exercise clothes.

8. Not paying attention to your heart rate.

When it comes to exercising, there are people who tend to overdo it.  As a result, they push their bodies to the limit, which can be harmful to their heart.  When you do your exercises, always keep your target heart rate in mind and work within that limit.  Consult your gym instructor or other professionals to help you determine your target heart rate.
